The Committee
Christchurch UKIP is blessed with a committee of compatible and competent
people, who get on well together. We share the tasks and, with some passion, the
belief that this Nation should get out of the EU. Temporarily, the New Forest
West UKIP Branch has joined Christchurch until they re-assemble a working
committee.
BRIEF CVs of the Christchurch UKIP Committee.

TOM LINNINGTON Branch Secretary
Tom Linnington worked in Industry as a Physicist for 32 years. In Tom's words,
'It was obvious that all three major Parties were committed to reducing this
great Nation into a subservient collection of Regions in the European State'; so
he joined UKIP, the only voice available for getting out of the EU. He wanted to
do all he could to help, and allowed himself to be co-opted in to the Committee
of Christchurch UKIP, where he was later persuaded to become Branch Secretary.
RICHARD HEASLIP Vice Chairman
Richard is retired, and has lived in West Parley since 2002. He was born in
London, and lived in Bognor throughout WWII. In 1946 he won one of the first
scholarships to R.N. College Dartmouth and joined the Royal Navy 1946 as a 13
year old Cadet.
In 1953 he joined his first submarine, and went on to serve in 8 submarines –
in1964 he was XO of Britain’s first nuclear submarine, HMS Dreadnought, and then
C.O. of the 5th nuclear submarine HMS Conqueror.
After this he was in several N.A.T.O. appointments. In all, his service took him
round the world, and he and his wife lived in Malta; Halifax, Nova Scotia (where
he met and married Lorna Jean in 1959); Norfolk, Virginia; Rome, Italy; and Mons,
Belgium.
In Richard’s last job he was the Head of the Submarine Service, and also the
NATO Cdr Submarines Eastern Atlantic.
He retired in 1987 as a Rear Admiral, C.B.
Until 1990 he was the Director General of the English Speaking Union, an
international charity based in London.
Richard and Lorna-Jean (who is Canadian) have twins (a boy and a girl) and 2
more sons; and 4 grandchildren.
He enjoys writing, music, football and long distance walking. At one time he was
the Chairman of the Combined Services Football Association, and is a lifetime
Portsmouth fan. He and Lorna Jean have walked most of the National Trails,
including Coast to Coast each way, and in 2002 he and Lorna Jean topped it off
by walking from Lands End to John O’Groats).
Richard has given a life time to the service of his country, but thinks he
could top all this effort if he can help get Britain Out Of The EU.
MIKE ECKEL Vice Chairman
Served in the Royal Air Force for 22 years, starting as an apprentice in 1948
and finishing as a Transport Command Captain in 1970. His service included being
a Day Fighter Ground Attack pilot in Hong Kong and during the Emergency in
Malaya.
He served in Transport Command first flying Hastings aircraft and later the
Britannia.
On leaving the R.A.F. in 1970 he joined British Caledonian Airways for 4 years
flying the Boeing 707. This was followed by 13 years in Hong Kong working for
Cathay Pacific Airways. Here he flew Boeing 707’s, Lockheed Tristars and the
Boeing 747.
He has lived in St. Leonards for 11 years .He joined U.K.I.P. in September 2003
and is currently a Vice Chairman of the Christchurch Constituency Association.
He still travels round the world, and everywhere does his best to get the
message across: OUT OF EU.
A S TALLETT - MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY
Allan Tallett served all of his working life with the Royal Air Force, as a
night-fighter pilot for several years in the UK and Germany before training as a
flying instructor and serving as the Chief Instructor at No 3 Flying Training
School at RAF Leeming and then as commanding officer of the Republic of
Singapore Air Force Flying Training School at Changi.
In between times, he served in Vietnam and Yugoslavia as naval and air attache
and at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell where he was responsible for the
basic training of all RAF officers.
After retiring from the RAF, he served as an Investigating Officer in the
Ministry of Defence before finally retiring to Dorset in 1997.
He served for 3 years as the Christchurch Branch Chairman, during which the
membership grew considerably, and the Party did well in European Elections. He
remains committed to Getting Britain out of the EU.
ROLLO REID, Branch Chairman.
Rollo was born in Hertford, was brought up in the UK, France, the USA, then UK
again. He went to school in Dorchester, then Birmingham University. He joined
the TA, did parachuting and armour attachments.
He joined the Royal Engineers, where he led an Armoured Engineer Troop on the
border with East Germany at the time of the Prague uprising; then Singapore,
where most of the work consisted of building roads, villages and bridges in the
Malayan jungle. After this he attended a long technical course at Chatham, which
included a 2-year attachment to the US Army Corps of Engineers, and became a
Chartered Civil Engineer. Then Germany again, with stints in Northern Ireland.
After this Rollo returned to Chatham as a Technical Instructor.
In 1976, he joined the Family Company, Reidsteel which exports Steel Buildings
around the world. He has been involved in buildings in over 130 countries over
the last 28 years, and has travelled to most of them. It is the difficulty of
helping to run a business and to design steel structures, when hampered by EU
regulation and the coming mandatory Eurocodes, that made Rollo join UKIP.
When Allan Tallett stood down as branch chairman Rollo was elected into the
Chair. His Aim? To get Britain OUT of EU.
Laurie James. Committee Member.
Laurie was born and raised in London, where he met his wife Margaret. He has 3
children and 4 grandchildren. Laurie and his family have lived in Christchurch
for the last 30 years. He was employed in Local Government and Local Health
Authorities, much of the time as departmental manager for pre-school health
services in Dorset.
Laurie developed a keen interest in Politics. For many years he was an active
member of the Conservative Party. Like many others in that party, he became
appalled by the way the Country was being drawn into the Odious European Union
and Federation. He was particularly moved by the losses of freedoms that many in
the UK have fought and died for.
The turning point for Laurie was in 2003 when M Howard, speaking in Berlin,
stated "I am determined that Britain shall remain a positive and influential
member of the European Union".
In Laurie's opinion, staying in the EU means being continually swept further
into this corrupt, wasteful, expensive, damaging set-up. He saw UKIP as the only
vehicle for his views, and left the Tories and joined the United Kingdom
Independence party. He is an active and reliable worker for our cause of Getting
Out Of The EU.
LES WILLIAMS Treasurer
D O B 29/04/1941
Les Is married with 2 sons and 3 Grandchildren.
He worked in Engineering and a buying office before joining the army in 1962. He
served 4 years in an Armoured Regiment.
He joined the Post Office in 1966, where he rose to the job of accountant before
man power cuts led to generous redundancy, which he could not refuse. He retired
in 1992.
He was a life long Tory voter and appears to be the only person who voted yes in
the referendum on the Common Market in the 70s.
But disillusion set in as he began to see what was going on. He joined UKIP in
2003 after realising the the so-called Conservative Euro Sceptics were achieving
absolutely nothing to get us out of the EU.
He found he had a talent for writing letters and have so far has had 23
published locally, putting UKIP's point of view. He is considered one of the
awkward squad in that he firmly believes that the way forward for UKIP in
domestic politics is to go beyond the EU and start putting forward radical but
sensible policies on domestic issues; at Local level as well as National level.
UKIP is a broad church and many views can be aired and shared. But we all share
the aim of Getting Out Of the EU.
David Hughes PPC Parliamentary Candidate for Christchurch in 2005, and
Liaison Officer with Bournemouth East, Bournemouth West, poole and Christchurch
UKIP branches.
David was born in 1948 in Barnet, and educated in Hertfordshire. He moved to
the Bournemouth area in 1997, after a career in business, to look after his
elderly Father. He was partly retired and found plenty of time to devote to
charity work and Christian Lay Ministry. Like many other members of UKIP, he has
never had a great interest in Politics, but has been driven into it by what he
sees as the campaign of deception and half-truths used by successive Governments
to bury us deeper and deeper into the European Super-State. He has become
increasingly alarmed at the growth of the power of the European Union; and the
commitment of our political leaders to the EU. In 2002, David and his Father
both joined UKIP. In May 2005 he stood as Parliamentary Candidate. David's aim
is to get the UK Out Of The EU, and puts a lot of effort into Committee work and
inter-branch Liaison. Like all of the Christchurch UKIP members, he puts effort
into leafleting and the Petition.
Christchurch UKIP is always on the lookout for more enthusiasts to join the
committee, or stand for elected positions on Councils etc. Please let us know if
you would like to take part.
